The 14th Jamboree on the Internet and 53rd Jamboree on the Air are coming around this year on the 16th and 17th of October. Arrowe Park will once again be hosting a camp over this weekend, supported by a number of sponsors, including the East Rand Amateur Radio Club, who will provide radio connectivity, allowing us to speak to Scouts all over the world. There will also be online chat via Scoutlink. On Saturday evening, there will be a LAN gaming tournament using the open source game Tremulous. A number of other exciting activities are being planned. Night Hike 2010

The East Rand District Night Hike started and finished at Arrowe Park on Friday night, with 12 patrols cooking a three courde meal on wheelbarrows while travelling around the suburbs. Congratulations to the over all winners, 6th Benoni Dallas, and thanks to Benoni Air Scouts for organising the hike.

This year’s Jamboree on the Air/Jamboree on the Internet was a great success- thanks to everyone who contributed help. The 50 or so Scouts had a great time, to see our report and photos, log on to JOTAJOTI.ORG. Thanks to DELL South Africa for supplying the computers for the weekend.

Tree planting Programme

Arrowe Park is participating in the UN Environmental Programme’s Billion Tree Campaign, which aims to plant 1 000 000 000 worldwide in 2007. We are aiming to plant 50 trees this year. To contribute to the Arrowe Park campaign, e-mail us.

Phoenix Challenge Camp

Phoenix Rover Crew‘s popular Challenge Camp for Benoni district Scouts was held recently in Arrowe Park. Hooligans has photos from the event, including bundu golf, electric fence obstacles and canoeing. Congratulations to 9th Benoni Greyspear Leopards, the winners this year.

The Jamboree on the Air / Jamboree on the Internet will be held over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of October. Arrowe Park will once again be hosting a camp, with an internet station, radio operators, a LAN gaming base and a coffee shop.

Last year’s camp was a great success, with Scouts making radio contact with Japan, India, Russia, and St. Helena in the South Atlantic, where Scouts where playing a cricket match during their JOTA camp.

Camp fee for the weekend is R60 per person self-catered, or R120 per person with catering. Camping is open to patrols of up to 8, and anyone wishing to camp must complete the entry form (MS word doc or openoffice). More information is available in the flier.

Chapel Service Project

Matthew Pilkington recently completed a service project at Arrowe Park- refurbishing the Chapel. When you next visit, you will notice a newly varnished wood, repaired benches and new gravel that has been laid in the Chapel.
